Interesting Ghia information

So both these updates happened at a very similar time, if not exactly the same time all Jan 59

The way I read it, the seat frame from July 55- October 55 had the thin back a non adjustable hinged backrest frame, the seat covers (in some early cases the lower backrest bar was split to accommodate the fixing of the backrest cover like the early VW seat covers it was changed again to a tube with the spear tags to hold the covers) and door panels were all leatherette (there is a hint that the door panel top part did have a rear direction diagonal stitch pattern but was later changed to the horizontal stitched lines) and part rubber part carpet bulkhead covering small panels smoothed out the bulkhead lines over the heater pipe to the dash windscreen demister.

In January 56 the lower part of the seat frame was replaced with an adjustable screw type backrest mechanism, (there was some attempt in October 56 to stop the fracturing of the seat frame for the 57 frame and when they went to the 58 and 60 years they increased the length of the reinforcement so it was further into the slider channel area.) the P200-205 corduroy cloth was also introduced to help the export market and the seats were still thin-back up to September 57 when the new inclusions for the 58 year model came into play.
These included the replacement of the early backrest adjuster with the VW 3 position backrest adjuster attached to the cushion frame and the VW pivot leg on the backrest frame to allow better access to the rear seat and luggage area. Rear emergency seat on the Coupe had a 108 cm backrest and a 104.5cm width cushion these sizes were then reduced for the Cabriolet models to 91 cm backrest and 88.3 cm for the cushion, to accommodate the cab intrusion of the folding top frame.
With the change from thin-back to 58 thick-back the frame stayed the same only the spring pad and padding was upgraded with the introduction of the new leatherette and P206-209 square weave cloth inserts material.
Other changes at that time were; carpet replaced the felt covering in the luggage compartment behind the rear emergency seat, full rubber bulkhead covering that accentuated the heater pipes, 2 types of plastic materials with up swept design, 3 chrome mouldings and new thin passenger armrests on door panels.

Seat frame changed again September 59 (60 year model) to a smaller more rounded cushion shape and the replacement of the lower protruding horizontal bar with a much less protruding bar. With the inclusion of the 3 horizontal metal rods to hold the separately covered rear backrest panel, new cushion spring pad and padding was also introduced, both doors now have plastic armrests on both sides but still retain the up swept waffle door panel design.

This changed at the beginning of the 61 year model when they introduced the fine ribbed vinyl on the upper and lower parts into the door panel covering and the P210-213 Hounds tooth insert material.

Oui le dash pad arrive bien au châssis 2 261 049 (Janv 59) selon les manuels VW sur la karmann.
Par contre la modification du tableau de bord arrive quelque mois avant (Nov 58).
Donc il y a bien des low light avec le nouveau tableau de bord mais sans le dash pad entre Novembre 58 et decembre 58.
La bande de retenu en métal (en dessous du dash pad) arrivera bien plus tard (début juillet 59)

Suivant mes documents le changement des pare soleil se fait bien au châssis 2 252 455

Difficile de dire les premiers changement entre aout 55 et décembre 55 car il n'existait pas de manuel karmann a cette époque, et il y a très peu de note sur l'evolution durant cette période. Mais les sièges avant ont bien un dossier réglable en aout 55 (voir le plus vieux karmann du monde encore en circulation body number 39)

Oui il y a bien une renforcement de l'ossature des sièges en octobre 56 , et les nouveaux siège (avec nouveaux réglage du dossier) arrivent au châssis 1649253

Faux , l'ossature des sièges changent à nouveau en aout 60 (année modèle 61) avec les trois tubes rond horizontal dans le dossier de l'ossature du siège (et pas pour l'année modèle 60)

Thank you for your clarification to my Ghia information, Cyril. This is the very reason I posted this information, to provoke a response to help me compile and confirm the correct information and I knew I would get that from this forum. With France being closer to the point of manufacturer, I believed that you would have more and more accurate information than anyone else in the world and I need my data to be as correct as I can get it.

j'avais mal traduit, il parlait du modele dit "gauffré" (modele 58-59). Il n'a jamais précisé ces modeles plexi vert en fait applicable comme tu le précises.

Oui cette partie la je l'avais bien compris Chris . J'ai rajouter cette information supplémentaire pour préciser la transition entre le 1er modèle de pare soleil et le 2ème modèle
